Red deer hind and jackdaw. Female red deer (Cervus elaphus) with a jackdaw (Corvus monedula) standing on her head. The red deer is the UK's largest native land animal. It is a herbivorous ruminant, grazing on vegetation. In the autumn, stags (male deer) compete with each other for breeding rights over a herd of hinds (female deer). Jackdaws are scavengers that will feed on a wide range of food, including parasitic insects living on deer. Photographed in Richmond Park, London, UK. | |
