Western grebe (Aechmophorus occidentalis) carrying its chick on its back. This bird inhabits wetlands throughout North America. It breeds on large lakes in western North America,and spends the winter on the Pacific coast and the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It nests in large colonies,and migrates in loose flocks. It usually lays three or four eggs,which it incubates for around 23 days. The young take just over two months to fledge.
