Green tree frog. Green tree frog (Hyla cinerea) on the lip of a northern pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea). This frog lives in vegetation by the edges of ponds and marshes in the central and eastern USA. It mainly preys on flies. They are known for their loud chorus of calls in early summer. It is a small frog, reaching a maximum length of just six centimetres. Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants which grow in areas with infertile soils. They derive their nutrients from insects which fall into their pitchers after being attracted by their sweet smell. Photographed in Tyrell County,North Carolina,USA | |
