Glass frog. Glass frog (Centrolenella sp.) next to its eggs on a leaf. This small frog inhabits the tropical jungles of Central America. It lays its eggs on the undersides of leaves overhanging rivers and streams. When the eggs hatch, the tadpoles fall into the water. These frogs spend most of their time on leaves above water, feeding mainly on insects. They take their name from their near-transparent skin, which allows their internal organs to be seen. This is more obvious when viewing the underside of such a frog. They reach a maximum length of just three centimetres. Photographed in Costa Rica | |
