White-fronted bee-eater (Merops bullockoides) perched on a branch with a butterfly in its beak. This colourful bird is found from Kenya to South Africa, where it nests in colonies in the banks of rivers and streams. As their name suggests,bee-eaters predominantly feed on flying insects, especially bees and wasps. They remove the sting from the bee by hitting it on a hard surface, where the pressure of the impact extracts most of the venom from the sting.
