The Spiny Glass Frog (Cochranella spinosa) is an inhabitant of Central American forests. The species breeds on plant leaves along the edges of streams. Eggs are deposited on leaves above the water. In contrast to many other glass frogs, with this species the developing larvae have little pigment. When the tadpoles begin to hatch out, they drop into the water below. Frogs of this family typically have translucent ventral surfaces through which the beating heart and all viscera can easily be observed. These developing larvae were photographed in 2008 in the Atlanta Botanical Garden's amphibian conservation laboratory | |
