Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) flying from a dead tree. Golden eagles are found in wilderness and mountainous areas throughout the northern hemisphere and get their name from the golden feathers they have on their head and neck. Golden eagles eat mammals,up to the size of young deer, birds and,if necessary, carrion. The larger female eagles have a wingspan over two metres across. Photographed in Finland in February | |
