Cattle egrets (Bubulcus ibis),juveniles and adult (red crest). The cattle egret's red crest appears during the breeding season. Cattle egrets nest in large colonies in trees and bushes, and lay from 2 to 6 eggs. The young are raised and fed by both parents. The young become fully independent 45 to 60 days after birth. Cattle egrets are found all over Africa (apart from the Sahara),and around the coasts of the Americas, southern Asia and Australasia. They feed on insect prey found on the hides of large herbivores,on the ground,or in the water. Cattle egrets can reach over 50 centimetres in length.
