Female foam nest tree frog Rachophorus leucomystax laying her eggs. When the female lays her eggs she secretes albumen to make a foam nest. The albumen is whisked into a froth by the action of the hindlegs. The nest is positioned overhanging a pond. The outside of the foam forms a crust while the inside remains sufficiently liquid to allow the eggs to float in it. When the crust ruptures the eggs or tadpoles drop into the water & continue to develop. This tree frog is found in South East Asia | |
