Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda). This is a gregarious fish which inhabits the tropical and subtropical regions of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It may reach a length of over two metres, and is a fast and voracious predator. Several attacks on swimmers have been reported. Its main prey is other fish, although squid are also taken. Large fish are cut up by its powerful teeth and jaws before being eaten. It is known to congregate in schools of thousands of individuals, but adults often live as solitary hunters.
