Clown fish. Clown fish,Amphiprion ocellaris, amongst the tentacles of a sea anemone. Clown fish, also known as anemone fish, live in symbiotic association (both partners benefit) with anemones. Each species of clown fish lives with a different species of anemone,a slime on the fish's skin preventing the anemone's stinging cells from attacking it. The clown fish sleeps, hides from danger, eats, and lays it eggs between the poisonous tentacles. The protection offered by the anemone is exchanged for food brought by the clown fish and its cleaning abilities. Photographed in the waters of Borneo | |
