Spider web construction. Computer trace of the movements made by a Hyptiotes paradoxus spider as it constructed its triangular silk web. The red lines show the spider's path as it formed initial structures such as anchor threads. Yellow lines relate to the construction of the web's four radial threads, white lines to the temporary (auxiliary) spiral and blue lines to the sticky spiral used to capture prey. Some of the lines are zigzagged due to vibrations produced by the spider. The blurring this causes may protect the spider from predators.
