Radar image of Barton Crater,Venus. Barton is about 50 kilometers in diameter, and is large enough to have a ring at its centre instead of the more usual peak. The central ring is broken in places, indicating that its structure was disrupted during or shortly after the cratering event. The floor of the crater is radar-dark,suggesting that it was filled in with volcanic deposits. Barton Crater is located at 27 degrees north latitude in the western hemisphere of the planet. The data for this image were gathered by the Magellan radar-mapping spacecraft in September 1990 | |
