Dolly cloning technique (fourth of 5 pictures). Light micrograph of a sheep egg and an udder cell during cloning of "Dolly",the first sheep cloned from an adult cell. At centre is a sheep egg cell. At left a pipette holds the egg which has had its nucleus removed; at right a needle contains an udder cell which will be injected into the egg. A spark of electricity then fuses these cells into one and stimulates an embryo to grow. The embryo is implanted into the womb of a surrogate sheep. Research conducted by Dr Wilmut at the Roslin Institute,Edinburgh,Scotland. (see photos G285/037,G285/038,G285/039,G285/041) | |
