MODEL RELEASED. Cloned sheep. Veterinary scientist with five genetically-identical cloned sheep. Clones can be made by removing an embryo in the early stage of development and splitting it (as was the case here). Each separate part is placed in the womb of a sheep which acts as a surrogate mother. Clones can also be made by injecting the genetic material from a sheep egg or adult cell into a sheep egg from which the genetic material has been removed. This technique allows mass production of genetically identical animals and is an effective way of propagating any genes introduced into the parents.
