A mating pair of Common Frogs (Rana temporaria). Frogs congregate in ponds in early spring (end of February in the UK) to mate. There is intense competition between the males to grab a female and to hold onto her during spawning. Shallow,still water is preferred and small ponds are often favoured,as in this garden pond in Dorset UK
