White-fronted bee-eater (Merops bullockoides). This colourful bird nests in colonies in the banks of rivers and streams. As their name suggests,bee-eaters predominantly feed on flying insects, especially bees and wasps. They remove the sting from the bee by hitting it on a hard surface, where the pressure of the impact extracts most of the venom from the sting. Whitefronted bee-eaters are found from Kenya to South Africa. Photographed in Botswana | |
