Heliozoan and ciliate. Light microscopy footage of an Actinosphaerium eichhorni heliozoan being hit by an Askenasia ciliate. Heliozoa (sun-animalcules) are unicellular eukaryotic micro-organisms, classed as protists. They have long stiff actinopodia that they use to capture their prey, which can include ciliates. Ciliates are microscopic aquatic protozoa that use cilia for locomotion. These specimens are in a pond water sample from Berlin, Germany.
